The XF Petition Committee
If a student receives the standard sanction of an XF, they have the option to petition for the "x's" removal. While the student would still have an "F" on their transcript, the marking which indicates that the failure was due to academic dishonesty may be removed. In order to remove one's XF they should first email aiseminar@umd.edu. Students must complete a series of online lessons and essays which are to be reviewed by the Honor Council's XF committee. This committee meets regularly throughout the semester. It is important to note that the standard sanction requires that a period of twelve months has passed before a student is qualified for their "X" to be removed. However, you may email aiseminar@umd.edu to begin the process prior to that period ending.
